HUMANING: in Conversation

Ego, Identity, Self, Soul, Whole

Episode Summary

What exactly is the "self"? Meander with us through a maze of meanings as we suss out the vocabulary of selfhood, exploring how our definitions inform both our internal and external relationships.

Episode Notes

Last week we discussed what it might mean to excavate the "self" from the tangles of conditioning and expectation, but what exactly is the "self"? Meander with us through a maze of meanings as we suss out the vocabulary of selfhood, exploring how our definitions inform both our internal and external relationships.

What does it mean to develop a "healthy" ego — one that works in service to the soul that inhabits the body? And is it the ego or our relationship with it that evolves as we move towards greater self-actualization? Peeling back the layers of our distinctions between ego, identity, psyche, and soul, this conversation dances us to the edge where the individual meets the whole — to the choice of whether to recognize ourselves as apart from or as a part of the whole of life itself.

This conversation includes the voices of Hallie Dalsimer, Alex Crow, and Ashley Berry.
